Site Idea
So in the never ending battle of trying to think of something new to write about during a brainstorming session I had an idea. What about having a section on the website that listed domains for sale. Probably right over there ——–>>>> in the sidebar. Not just random websites but sites that I own. I currently own close to two dozen domain names. I’m somewhat of a domain hoarder I guess you could say. I love coming up with a good name and then hurriedly checking to see if it has already been registered. It’s as if I feel like someone else had the thought at the exact same time I did and we’re racing to see who can register it first. Sound familiar to anyone?
Like the word hurriedly for example. Just typing along in that last paragraph and the word hurriedly comes up. Damn, taken. Anyway a lot of those domains sit parked at NameDrive collecting 3¢ a month. In my opinion they are good names. Why am I not putting together a site or blog and monetizing the hell out of them? Damned laziness. That’s the only excuse I can come up with.
It will be pretty hard for me to part with them, so what I may do in the mean time is register some domains for the explicit purpose or reselling them. That sounds like a better way for me to ease into it. I’ll get this up and going over the next couple of weeks.
Test Post From iPhone 3G
As you can tell from the title I’m writing this post from an iPhone 3G. But, it’s not just any iPhone 3G, it’s MY new iPhone 3G. That’s right. I was finally able to get one of these bad boys. Better late than never. I’m I pretty big gadget guy but unfortunately my budget doesn’t always allow me to partake in the latest and greatest. The original iPhone was just too damned expensive, price drop or not. But when Steve announced the 3G I knew I had to get one as soon as AT&T would let me upgrade. That happened to be last Friday. I bought the 8GB black model. Piece of advice for those of you that don’t yet have one and are thinking about picking one up. Get the 8 gig. Several people that already had iPhones told me this because unless you need to have more than a couple of movies on it, you can use the app SimplifyMedia to stream your entire music collection from home. I will add some pictures later when I get home.
*update: Links added from home. Photos coming as soon as I take them.
*updateupdate: Done.
Something Different
Just to mix things up a little bit so that it’s not all business all the time, how about a picture of my dog.

Tyler Cruz’s Affiliate Marketing Challenge 4
Tyler, consider it blogged. I have actually been following Tyler’s blog for a while. I think I have read all of his posts at some point or another. He has been a really successful Internet entrepreneur that does web stuff for a living. He is currently running a contest on his site for new affiliate marketers that sign up under his account. This is actually the 4th such contest on his site.
I first heard about Market Leverage via Tyler’s site and thought it sounded like an interesting program. I finally got what I consider enough research under my belt to get stared and registered my account with Tyler as the referrer. The beginner prizes are actually pretty awesome. I have no illusions about breaking into the main category competition this month but I’m feeling pretty good about the new signup competition. Here are the prizes.
- 1st Place: 8GB iPod Nano
- 2nd Place: $100 Prepaid ML Rewards Card
- 3rd Place: Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse
The current standings for the new signups category looks like this:
| Rank | Account | Earnings |
| 1st: | CD11421 | $25.00 |
| 2nd: | CD11560 | $14.20 |
| 3rd: | CD11387 | $6.20 |
I would love to grab one of those top two prizes but I would gladly accept third as well. Thanks for having the contest Tyler it is really quite motivating. I guess I should also thank Market Leverage for supplying the prizes huh? Thanks Market Leverage.
Launched My First Campaign
That’s right, I’ve taken the plunge. I have enabled my first affiliate marketing campaign. To be perfectly honest, I’m not entirely sure that I did everything correct but hey, at least I have my hook in the water, right? I have been refreshing Google AdWords like crazy watching the stats even though they aren’t live. It is very exciting waiting to see the numbers gradually trickle in.
I have started what I would consider a relatively conservative campaign this first go around. I know in previous posts I have said that I was going to be patient and I believe I still am. What better way to learn than via on the job training.
I have also really ramped up the studying and reading about affiliate marketing as well. Yesterday I came across a video that really inspired me to kick this project into another gear. I want to finish watching the other videos in the series before I make a determination as to whether it was all a sales pitch or if they are truly trying to teach. I’ll investigate more before i post the specifics of what I am watching because I don’t want to post a misleading sales pitchy link. I didn’t forget about what I said I was going to write about last time either. The “Affiliate Marketing Blogs I Read” post will be coming soon.
Thanks for stopping by, I’m off to check stats again.
Note to self: Look for todo WordPress plugin to stick in the sidebar so that everyone can see topics I plan on writing about at some point.
I’m In
My last post lobbying (begging) to be accepted into Market Leverage apparently worked. I have been accepted. It’s awesome that I got in and will be able to attempt this crazy thing called affiliate marketing. I can’t wait. I was a little worried since there are more than a few people who have been denied. Some more than once. Although I think Derek was later accepted anyway, so good for him as well.
I haven’t started a campaign yet because I am still trying to read as much as possible about how to do it right. I understand that you have to put your money to work in order to actually make money and I am more than willing to do that. I just want to minimize the losses as much as possible and get into the black (or green if you prefer).
I have a core group of sites that I am following right now to capture any tidbit of information I can. That may actually be the topic of my next post. Sites I use to learn affiliate marketing. Some of the most interesting topics on these blogs are their income reports. It is very exciting to hear them talk about turning their first profit. Can’t wait to get started. But I will. Don’t want to rush into this and blow my entire (as yet undetermined) budget.
Affiliate Marketing - A Plea
I’ve plunged back into to “Make Money on the Internet” crowd. I am planning on submitting my application to Market Leverage to join their affiliate program but I am a little unclear about what the minimum requirements are.
I own (checking Google Docs) 21 domain names. A couple of them are personal domains that won’t be used for anything except for personal stuff. The vast majority were bought for the explicit purpose of either building a web site and reselling them or just holding on to them because I thought they were good names. What I’m not exactly sure about is whether having clever domain names is enough to warrant entry into an affiliate program. Currently most of those domains are parked with NameDrive.com and I am ready to really put them to work.
I don’t have any personal experience with launching sites that include affiliate programs but I have cashed a check from Google AdSense (yeah I kind of consider AdSense a different beast). I also have the requisite photo of the check if necessary. So, Market Leverage account rep, if you have made it this far know that I am a quick learner and I am excited to dive into this area.
If you think I don’t meet the requirements to join your network currently, please contact me via email admin at techky.com and let me know what I need to do.
Thanks.
…how was that for begging?
Ah Ha!
Here we are again. The blog is now running Ma.tt and crews latest and greatest. As of today that is WordPress 2.6.2. It is always fun to see what new features they have come up with. This 2.6.x revision is looking veryh polished and mature. Can’t wait for 2.7.
